When the first two little piggies saw the errors of their ways and took refuge in the third little piggy’s brick fortress, you didn’t hear them calling the big bad wolf, a political terrorist, did you?
Why then, do our elected officials run and hide behind the mammoth walls of their Institutions, whenever the people they represent come calling, asking that their collective voice be heard?
Could it be, that like the first two piggies, our political leaders lack foresight and display negligence towards their own vulnerability?
Is it not possible, that they too have realized how frail the system they have been supporting, truly is?
There should be no doubt, as we quickly approach the 21st century, that people power has taken on a whole new dimension. The use of the information super highway and alternative news networks have now made possible, the reporting of the other side of the truth.
'The general public are not the stupid, lazy and non creative, theory X types, that the institutions and media seek so hard to project, are they? Time and again, the electorate has had misinformation shoved down their proverbial throats, to the point that they are just not going to swallow it anymore.'
The dictionary defines activism as 'taking direct action to achieve a political or social end and terrorism as the use of force or threats, to intimidate.'
It then stands to reason, that our elected officials who as common practice, break promises and treat their constituents with neglect and contempt, would perceive any and all who stand up for their inherent rights, as terrorists rather than activists.
You see, perception is key, and anyone who feels threatened by civil liberty acts, most often is insecure within themselves, as to the job they have been doing. Human nature being what it is, it would then follow that a person whose competency level has been challenged, would either (a) if competent, seek to solve the problem or (b) if incompetent, resort to simplistic mis-labelling practices.
I do believe the latter is most prevalent in society today, don’t you?
When you get right down to it, there is a vast difference between political terrorism and political activism. As vast as the spectrum itself. It is truly unfortunate, that activism, which seeks to offer peaceful, sustainable development solutions, through neglect and misrepresentation by elected officials, has become grouped with the fringe elements of society which would see it burn to the ground before offering to rebuild it.
It is for the public to decide, by observing these war-like responses and actions from the left and right sides, how truly important activism is in maintaining the balance.
It is as equally important, for the public to understand, that if the status quo was working to the benefit of the vast majority, there would be no need for activism to keep both sides from killing themselves off, along with thousands of innocent people.
